It’s time. Roger Federer‘s tennis career comes to an end in a very special match in ‘his’ competition, the Laver Cup, alongside his great historical rival: Rafael Nadal.
But the Swiss will remain, as he has been for 15 years, the star of Mercedes-Benz.
The Swiss tennis player, winner of 20 Grand Slam tournaments, had been away from the court for three years but he remained the highest paid tennis player in the world in 2021 thanks to his advertising revenues.
Among the farewell messages on social media is of course Mercedes-Benz’s tribute to one of its global ambassadors, alongside well-wishes from F1 stars including his ‘teammate’ at Mercedes, George Russell, and Fernando Alonso.
Federer and Mercedes have collaborated on countless events, including purely automotive events. The Swiss star unveiled the Mercedes E-Class 43 AMG family car to the world at an event on the eve of the Mercedes Cup in 2016.
The latest generation of the Mercedes G-Class, one of the oldest models on the market today, was promoted together with the Swiss under the slogan #strongerthantime, playing on the Swiss’ everlasting status as world number one.
And there’s been countless other adverts featuring the King of Wimbledon: GLE Coupe 63 AMG, S-Class (of more than one generation), V-Class (alluding to his role as father of his four children, two sets of twins)… and some more recent and memorable ones, such as the plug-in hybrid GLE and the two grandparents who gawked at him as he arrived in town.
Here are just a few of the most recent ones featuring the Swiss star, who is sure to remain linked to the German firm for many years to come.
